Thousands throng Tiruchendur temple fest

The festival is celebrated to commemorate the 2009th Kumbabishegam' on Swathi Nakshathra' in the Tamil month of Aani every year.

Tiruchendur: Thousands of devotees witnessed the ‘Aani Varushabishegam’ festival at Tiruchendur Arulmigu Subramanyaswamy temple on Saturday.

The festival is celebrated to commemorate the 2009th ‘Kumbabishegam’ on ‘Swathi Nakshathra’ in the Tamil month of Aani every year. As part of this festival on Saturday, temple was opened for devotees at 3 am following which the ‘Vishwaroopa Dheeparadhana’ for the presiding deity, Kumaravidanga Perumal was performed at 3.30 am. 

Later at 4 am, ‘Uthayamarthanda Abishegam’ was performed for the deity and at 7 am, special ‘poojas’ were done for the ‘Sahashra Kalasams’ with holy water near the golden flag mast of the temple. The ‘kalasas’ were then taken to the temple towers where the consecration ceremony was performed by pouring the holy water on the “Kopura Kalasas” (Kalasas on the temple tower). The devotees witnessing these events chanted, “Vetrivel Veeravel”. Later in the evening, the deity, Kumaravidanga Peruman along with goddesses Valli and Deivanai were taken in a procession around the temple in temple cars.The Joint commissioner of HR & CE department, Mr. Bharathi along with the temple Thakkar, Balasubramanya Adhithan and others participated in the ‘Varushabishegam’ event.
