Krishnagiri: Tree falls on track, timely alert saves train

Krishnagiri: A timely alert prevented a running train from hitting an uprooted tree that had fallen on the track.The region had experienced heavy winds followed by rains, resulting in fallen trees and snapped power lines.

Passengers on board the Yeshwanthpur - Salem passenger, on Monday had a miraculous escape as a timely alert by some railway staff who noticed an uprooted tree lying on the track at Muneeshwaran Nagar here.

The train was heading towards Hosur railway station from Annekal in neighbouring Karnataka, but was stopped a few meters ahead of the spot.

Train services between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka resumed after the tree was cleared from the track. Similar was the situation regarding road transport also, since fallen trees were reported in many places across the district.

In another incident, a trader and his co-worker were electrocuted as an overhead power line fell on them due to strong winds.

The victims were identified as 35-year-old Munusamy of Kaveripattinam and his 30-year-old employee, Saravanan, of Muthurayankottai village here.

This mishap occurred in the early hours of Tuesday when they were heading towards Muthurayankottai on a two-wheeler. Kaveripattinam also experienced mild showers with strong winds on Monday. Kaveripattinam police registered a case and are investigating.
