Chennai: In a rare incident, a research scholar from IIT Madras on Saturday received a big shock as a parcel as she received contained a brick instead of the mobile phone she had bought online.

Nithila Devi N. is pursuing her PhD at Environment and Water Resources Engineering Division in the Department of Civil Engineering in IIT Madras. “I ordered a new mobile phone through Snapdeal on April 19 as my phone was broken. I paid Rs 12,000 from my e-wallet. I have received a message saying that my order will be delivered to me on April 21”, said Nithila Devi.

“The parcel was delivered on Saturday (April 22) afternoon. My friend received it. Instead of the mobile phone, I found the brick inside the parcel,”she said.

Nithila Devi immediately contacted the Snapdeal through the website.  “An executive from the company said he would enquire into the issue. But, I want my money back. I am surviving on my monthly stipend of Rs 25,000. So, it would be difficult for me to get another new phone,” she said. She said she would file a police complaint if the e-commerce major did not receive positively to her complaint.
