CISF, police take out flag march in Salem
Flag march was to send out a message that voters in \'vulnerable\' areas can vote freely and without any fear in exercising their democratic duty.
SALEM: In a bid to reassure voters of safe voting in pockets of Salem which have been identified as "vulnerable" areas for the April 18 Lok Sabha polls, central and state police forces took out an impressive flag mark through the town on Saturday.
The march, flagged off by the Salem police commissioner, K Shankar, in the presence of deputy commissioners, P. Thangadurai and Ms Shyamala Devi, saw contingents of the Tamil Nadu police and Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), was part of the series of efforts by the Salem district administration to create awareness among the people to ensure cent per cent voting on polling day.
The flag march was to send out a message that voters in 'vulnerable' areas can vote freely and without any fear in exercising their democratic duty. The flag march passed through Gandhi Road, Moondru Theatre, Pulikuthi street, Gundu Podum street and Fort area before it reached the CSI school complex here.

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu minister for Social Welfare, Mrs. B Valarmathi, sought to woo voters to the AIADMK-led front by stating that continuation of welfare schemes for the people will be dependent on people again voting for the AIADMK in the coming Lok Sabha and Assembly bye-polls.
Canvassing votes for the AIADMK Namakkal parliamentary constituency candidate, Mr. Kaliappan, near Rasipuram in the district on Saturday, Valarmathi exhorted the voters to again repose faith in the AIADMK as the "welfare schemes can continue only if you vote us back." She then continued with her campaign in an open jeep.
