Karnataka: Registrar's posting caught in red tape

Bengaluru: A government college processor recently got appointed as Registrar at Karnataka State Open University (KSOU), but he is not able to take charge. The reason: he is still awaiting relieving order from the college.

Prof. KG Chandrashekar,  Principal, Government SKSJT Institute, KR Circle, was on March 4 appointed registrar by Governor Vajubhai Vala, but is still awaiting relieving order from his current position from the state government.

According to sources in the state higher education department, "As per the protocol, he should be relieved from his Principal’s post prior to assuming the charge as Registrar.  But strangely even today he was not relieved from his present post, which has stopped him from assuming the charge at KSOU."

"His relieving order must be approved by the state higher education minister's office. But some vested interests are behind this unusual delay. We wish by Saturday he will be relieved and will be able to take up his new position," said an officer on condition of anonymity.

Ties with Governor to worsen
This delay in issuing the relieving order to Prof K.G. Chandrashekar could lead to a fresh round of tussle between the state higher education department and governor's office, sources alleged. "The Governor is the Chancellor and he is the appointing authority. But some vested interests are delaying the process to push their favourites," said an officer from the state higher education department.
