46 lakh took holy dip at Mahamaham festival

Thanjavur: A total of 46 lakh people took a holy dip in the Mahamaham tank for the Mahamaham festival this year, said N.Subbaiyan, Thanjavur District Collector here on Tuesday.

He told presspersons that on the last day (February 22, Monday) alone, 11 lakh people took a holy dip. People who did not attend the Mahamaham can get theerthavari holy water (theertham of the Mahamaham tank) and prasadam from Kasi Viswanathar temple, Sarangapani temple and Adhikumbeswarar temple at Rs 100 in person.

They can also get the holy water and prasadam by post, paying rS 150. The collector said that people can take a holy dip for a few more days in the tank. People can register for getting prasadam at the Mahamaham temples at Kumbakonam, 42 famous temples in Tamil Nadu and on the website www. mahamaham2016. intill Feb. 29.

One hundred and forty seven temporary toilets put up for the Mahamaham festival will be located in required places at all the temples and at public places where people gather in large numbers, the collector said.
