Hyderabad: Police detain protesters for violating law

Reportedly the protesters were planning a road march in support of the Citizenship Amendment Act and National Register for Citizens.

Hyderabad: Hussainialam police detained protesters near Puranapul in the Old City of Hyderabad for gathering without prior permission.

Reportedly the protesters were planning a road march in support of the Citizenship Amendment Act and National Register for Citizens. The BJP’s Uma Mahender, who had contested as MLA from Charminar was also detained with 20 supporters.

The Hyderabad police have not given permission for rallies or road shows in public places in Hyderabad in support or against CAA or NRC. Confirming the arrest, Hussainialam police inspector K. Ramesh said, “We have taken 20 members into custody for gathering illegally on Sunday evening. As there is a chance of commission of any cognizable offence they were taken into preventive custody.”
