Ooty: A wind-felled flex board led to a freak car accident here on Sunday morning, as locals have been crying for action to ban banners and flex board display along the wooded road sides in the hills.

According to sources, four persons hailing from Ooty rural limits were returning from Bengaluru in a car on Sunday morning.  At the wooded Church hill road sector of the Ooty-NH along the collectorate, a banner, which was torn due to strong winds, fell on the windscreen of the car.

The vehicle rammed against a fallen tree, which had already been an obstruction on the footpath there.

While the front portion of the car suffered quite a bit of damage, the four persons who were travelling in the car, luckily, escaped unhurt, said a police source.

This incident proves that banners and flex boards on roads can be a threat to life and traffic, said Mr G. Janardhanan, president, Ooty Town Public Awareness Association.

The district administration should take initiative to ban this kind of banner and flex board culture along the wooded roads and tying of banners on trees, he said.
Investigations must be done to book the culprits who tied up the banner there which eventually proved to be posing danger to life, property and vehicular traffic, he pleaded.
