Bengaluru: In what is seen as a move to pacify enraged public, the police department has taken what appears to be as a lenient action against the head constable whose video of abusing and slapping a goods auto driver for allegedly violating traffic rule went viral on social media platforms.

The head constable, Mahaswami, attached to the Halasoor Gate traffic police station, has been transferred to the Traffic Training Institute, while an internal inquiry has been ordered against him.

There was an outcry in social media platforms by netizens who after watching the video demanded Mahaswami's suspension.

While the inquiry is underway, Mahaswami will undergo training on stress management for 10 days at the institute in Thanisandra.

Mahaswami got into a goods vehicle and assaulted its driver Suneel with helmet and later repeatedly slapped him for allegedly violating traffic rules and not stopping his vehicle. The act recieved condemnation from the public on the abuse of power by Mahaswami, forcing the police department to launch an inquiry.
