Mega festival Bathukamma gets more funding from Telangana govt

Hyderabad: The Telangana state government has increased funds for the upcoming Bathukamma celebrations in October from Rs 10 crore to Rs 15 crore.
The state government had been releasing Rs 10 crore each year — Rs 1 crore for each district, to celebrate Bathukamma on a grand scale, an additional Rs15 lakh will be allotted to each district this year.

The government has planned mega Bathukamma festival at LB Stadium on October 6 with 15,000 women taking part, on lines of the Onam festival in Kerala. The women will be given saris of the same colour for the festival.

While the official Bathukamma celebrations will be held at Tank Bund on October 9, the programme at LB Stadium will be a special event. The government has decided to hold official Bathukamma celebrations for nine days starting September 30.

Officials of the Cultural department had sent the proposals regarding the special event at LB Stadium and the same was approved by the government.
The department will announce the details of Bathukamma festivities in a couple of days.
