Hyderabad: Jelakari Anand, 12, who set himself ablaze in Wanaparthy district after being beaten up by his teacher, died on Tuesday. Meanwhile, education officials agreed to pay Rs 1.5 lakh as compensation and revenue authorities also assured the family of benefits under government schemes. Police registered a suspicious death case.

J. Anand, a Class III student at the Govern-ment Primary School in Seripally village burnt himself on Thursday after being beaten up by his Telugu teacher for not learning a poem. He sustained around 80 per cent burns. Though other students did not tell anything about who beat him, Anand told his parents that Telugu teacher Yugandhar had beaten him. Meanwhile, a three-member panel set up by the collector to inquire into the incident submitted its report.

After school he went home and burnt himself. Anand's father Naganna lodged a complaint with Srirangapur police station stating that his son attempted suicide as he was beaten by his teacher.
