Heavy Rains with Gusty Winds to Hit Telangana

Update: 2023-07-23 18:30 GMT

HYDERABAD: Although a day of respite from rains has been forecast for Hyderabad on Monday, the possibility of more rains across Telangana is not ruled out because of low-pressure.

Several parts of the city, meanwhile, experienced moderate rains from late Sunday afternoon while traffic was sluggish on many arterial roads and flyovers, despite it being a weekend.

However, vehicular movement was a bit slow in Langer Houz, Nanal Nagar, Narsingi, Rajendranagar, Mehdipatnam, ToliChowki, Shaikpet, Gachibowli, Tank Bund, Ameerpet, Begumpet, Punjagutta, Jubilee Hills, Film Nagar, Banjara Hills, Secunderabad, Sanathnagar, Nampally, Moazzam Jahi Market, Abids and Khairatabad.

Many people took to twitter to post videos and photos of the sudden downpour across the state, including in Dharmapuri and Jagtial.

Light to moderate rains were recorded in Jagtial, Mahbubnagar, Nalgonda, Nararyanpet, Jogulamba Gadwal, Sangareddy, Siddipet, Vikarabad, Wanaparthy, Adilabad, Mancherial and Nizamabad districts. Adilabad recorded the highest rainfall of 43.3 cm, followed by Mancherial 40.8 cm and Nizamabad 34 mm.

According to the IMD, low pressure is likely to form over northwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal off south Odisha-north Andhra Pradesh on Monday. This will lead to heavy rains. The cyclonic circulation over west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal lies over south Odisha and its neighbourhood at 3.1 km above mean sea level. The shear zone persisted roughly along latitude 20 degree north between 3.1 and 5.8 km above mean sea level, tilting southwards.

Orange alert has been issued for three days from Tuesday in Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Mahbubabad, Warangal, Hanamkonda, Janagaon, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Kamareddy, Mahbubnagar, Mancherial, Mulugu, Nizamabad, Jagtial, Rajanna Sircilla, Warangal, Hanamkonda, Siddipet, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Jogulamba Gadwal, Yadadri Bhuvangiri, Rangareddy, Hyderabad and Medchal-Malkajgiri districts. Heavy to very heavy rains are very likely at isolated places. Lightning accompanied with gusty winds of a speed of around 40-50 kmph are also very likely.

In the next 48 hours, the city will experience light to moderate rains or thundershowers as well as a dip in the temperatures as maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 29 and 23 degree, respectively.
