Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority has decided to increase interchanges to facilitate commuters travelling on the 158 kilometre outer ring road (ORR). The huge distance between each interchange had come under criticism as commuters have to travel eight kilometres to enter or exit the ORR.
Citing this, the HMDA has decided to hire a consultant and increase the number of interchanges from 19 to 25 based on feasibility.
The HMDA has decided to construct at least three interchanges on a priority basis to facilitate commuters, specifically those entering or exiting the IT corridor.
A senior HMDA official said that the interchanges will be constructed similar to the PVNR Express Highway. He said that the model would minimise the land acquisition which can be afforded by the HMDA. He said that the HMDA would soon hire a private consultant and submit a report on ideal locations where interchanges can be constructed.
The official said that the demand for an interchange at Narsingi, and nearby Abdullapurmet have been growing and that the HMDA will ensure interchanges at these places on a priority basis.
