Hyderabad: Power demand in Telangana is expected to touch 12,000 MW, the highest since Telangana government came into office. With good rains and monsoon expected to be widespread, officials expect agriculture operations to pick up and power consumption jump from the present 120-odd million units per day to over 180 over the next few months.

Officials said this is mainly due to the 9-hour day-time uninterrupted supply to agriculture sector. The State government has spent '2,400 crore to strengthen the power distribution infrastructure network like construction of sub-stations and laying of 33 kv, 11 kv, high and low tension lines.

The total installed capacity of Telangana State is less than 6,500 MW from thermal and hydel.  In addition to the TS share of energy from Central Genera-ting Stations and private power purchase agreements (PPAs) among others, they have made arrangements for 5000 MW  to meet the projected power demand
