Vijayawada: With the pending of underground drainage system at Maruti Nagar  located on Eluru Road in Vijayawada city, the residents are experiencing  hardships even during small rains.

This is the area where the first Vijayawada Mayor T. Venkateswara Rao resided. The residents in the colony observed that they have been facing drainage problem for a long time.

“We requested the municipal corporation officials to solve the  underground drainage problem, as it had been inundating the roads whenever it was blocked or overloaded due to heavy rains. But, the  VMC officials took it as a common issue and did not bother to solve it,” observed Mr R. Krishna, a resident  of the colony.

Apart from that, mosquito menace in the colony is very common,  observed the residents. They explained that the stagnated drainage in  the side drains and the waste which was uncollected from the dustbins  were the main reasons behind the spread of the mosquitos in the  colony.

The VMC officials should try to prevent the mosquiteos by using fogging  method temporarily and solve the drainage problem as a long-term solution,  suggested Ms Kamalamma, a local resident. She also observed that the  proper collection of waste was required.
