Shivamogga: Women beat men in numbers

There are 1, 06,500 female voters in Shivamogga rural as against 1,05,748 male( a difference of 752 voters) .

Shivamogga: The Shivamogga Lok Sabha constituency where state BJP chief, B S Yeddyurappa's son, B Y Raghavendra, is fighting to retain his seat in parliament, has more female voters than male. Of the eight assembly segments in the constituency, only  Shikaripura and Soraba have more male voters.  

On the whole, of the 16, 759, 75  voters in the constituency 8, 447, 40 are female and 8, 311, 85 male with  Shivamogga, Shivamogga rural, Bhadravathi, Theertahalli, Sagara and Byandoor assembly segments accounting for more women in the electorate.

There are 1, 06,500 female voters in Shivamogga rural as against 1,05,748 male( a difference of 752 voters) . Bhadravathi has 1,06,986 female voters as against 1,02,285 female, recording a difference of 4701s and  Shivamogga has 1,33, 580  female voters and 1,29, 6060 male, registering  a difference of 3,974.  Sagara too has 1, 00, 574 female voters as against 989, 27 male..

Interestingly, 14 Sakhi booths have been set up for women voters in Shivamogga rural, Bhadravathi, Shivamogga, Thirtahalli, Shikaraipura, Soraba and Sagara to encourage more of them to come out and vote. In addition to this, three ethnic polling booths have been set up at Baliga in Sagar and two ethnic polling booths at Harobenavalli in Shivamogga rural and Shivamogga to encourage the Hakki Pakki tribals to vote in Tuesday's election.

Booths for Persons With Disability (PWD) have been set up in Bhadravathi and Shivamogga to motivate more of the  disabled to  vote in the poll. (BOX)

 In 2014, BJP state chief, B S Yeddyurappa, won  against his nearest rival, Manjunath Bhandary of the Congress, polling 6,06, 216 votes as against his 2,42, 911. Ms Geeta, wife of actor, Shivarajkumar fielded by the JD(S), finished third with 2,40,636 votes. Mr Yeddyurappa, however, resigned from the seat after he got elected to the Assembly from Shikaripura  in 2018 and in the bypoll that followed, his son , B.Y. Raghavendra won on a BJP ticket, defeating Mr Madhu Bangrappa of the

JD(S) by 52,000 votes. The two are again taking on each other in Shivamogga this Lok Sabha elections.
