New Delhi: Soon after the BJP released its fourth list of seven candidates for Karnataka Assembly polls, it became clear that the much-expected political battle from Varuna constituency – between Karnataka’s Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and BJP’s chief ministerial candidate BS Yeddyurappa -- is not going to take place.

The constituency, which is considered a safe bastion of Siddaramaiah, has gone to his son Dr Yatheendra Siddaramaiah, who is making his political debut. He was likely to face Yeddyurappa's son BY Vijayendra.

However, after BJP’s fourth list released without any mention of Varuna, Yeddyurappa said that his son will not be contesting.

According to a report in NDTV, Yeddyurappa said, "I am not unhappy. We decided that my son won't contest from Varuna."

The decision, he added, was taken with the permission of the party's central leadership.

Yedyurappa further said, "Vijayendra worked hard on this seat. He will now campaign in many seats in this area."

"The BJP has many father son combinations," he said adding that the party will win from the seat even though another candidate will be fielded.

With the announcement of fourth list, the BJP has declared its nominees for 220 seats for the polls to the 224-member state Assembly. The party is making an all-out bid to oust the Congress government from the state.
