Thiruvananthapuram: The CPM has said that the expansion of the ruling Left Democratic Front was inevitable in the current political situation in the state. This was stated by CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan while presenting the organisational report at the four-day state conference which began in Thrissur on Thursday. However, the final decision on expansion of  the front would be taken only after discussions within LDF state committee and after bilateral talks with he coalition partners .

Earlier, CPM general secretary had called upon the Kerala unit to work for the further strengthening of  unity of left parties in the state. He said the strong LDF was a model before the nation and the unity should be further strengthened through joint struggles and agitations. Yechury said the LDF should work on presenting an alternative model of governance before the country . This was important as Kerala has to take the lead to fight the communal and divisive politics of the Narendra Modi government at the Centre and put forward alternative policies aimed at the welfare of all sections of society irrespective of caste and religion .
