Thiruvananthapuram: The CPM work report presented at the state conference criticised the stance of  CPI on various issues. The report says that CPI stand had put the government in an awkward position besides weakening the unity in the ruling front.  It cited the instance of CPI ministers boycotting Cabinet on the issue of resignation of  Thomas Chandy at a short notice. The unprecedented move had caused huge embarrassment to the government and the front, besides creating an impression that there were sharp divisions in the ruling coalition.

It said there seems to be a tendency to establish that only whatever they do was right. The stand on Chandy issue had plunged the front in a major crisis. It was deliberately done to show the CPM in a bad light. The CPM felt that such incidents would only create problems in the cohesiveness of the front and the smooth functioning of the government.  The CPI should show the political maturity to hold discussions on issues within the coalition set-up and try to resolve these amicably. Otherwise it will affect the collective functioning of the front and the government, the party felt.

The party report came down heavily on the functioning of the police. Though there is a change in the government, the police is yet to change its policy. The party needs to examine the charge that the police had lost democratic face. It said that though the police personnel may be having different political affiliations it should not reflect in their duty. It is the responsibility of  senior officers to ensure that the police implemented the LDF government’s policy. The party called for strict vigil against corruption in different departments. Besides it suggested further strengthening of the public delivery system making it more efficient, effective and transparent .
