THIRUVANANTHAPURAM/THRISSUR: The Catholic Congress of Thrissur wants to have a new face representing Thrissur Assembly constituency replacing veteran Congress leader  Therambil Ramakrishnan who has won from there six times.

The move comes amidst reports that KPCC general secretary Padmaja Venugopal is eyeing either Thrissur or Chalakkudy constituency. The organisation which has 150 units in  Thrissur district with a membership of over 3.5 lakh has the blessing of  Archbishop of Thrissur diocese Mar Andrews Thazhath in its bid to dethrone Mr. Ramakrishnan, confidant of former Chief Minister K. Karunakaran.

Prof (Retd) K. M. Francis, president of Catholic Congress of Thrissur diocese, told DC that  Mr Ramakrishnan had not taken up any people-friendly schemes during his tenure other than the usual roads and bridges construction works.

He alleged that  Thrissur town’s master plan dates back to 50 years leaving more than 10,000 people in the town high and dry.
