Hyderabad: The NGT will take up on Friday, a petition against alleged attempts to ease restrictions on buildings in a 10-km area around the Himayatsagar and Osmansagar.

The exclusion zone was created by GO111 in 1996. Recently, locals have formed a ‘GO111 Porata Samiti’ deman-ding that a committee be set up to look into unauthorised constructions in the zone.

Environmentalist Thakur Raj Kumar, who filed a petition on the matter, said, the HMDA’s lake protection committee had identified 12,500 illegal constructions in the area. “There is no need for a separate committee,” he said.

“The NGT  has asked the government whether it wants another committee  or will continue with the lake protection committee. The government is yet to submit its stand,” he said.
