Lucknow: Senior SP leaders Beni Prasad Varma and Reoti Rama Singh have offered to mediate in the ongoing war between Samajwadi president, Mulayam Singh Yadav and his son and chief minister, Akhilesh Yadav. Mr Varma said here on Friday that he had spoke to Mr Mulayam and would now speak to Mr Akhilesh.

“I am among the founder members of this party and Mulayam Singh has worked relentlessly to bring the party to a stage where it has a majority government. I will take the initiative and resolve the differences between the two because Akhilesh continues to be our chief minister candidate,” he said.

Mr Varma also lashed out at those who have been writing letters to announce their support to the chief minister and criticise other senior leaders. “These things are not meant to be publicised because they damage the party,” he said.

Meanwhile, the chief minister, on Friday, did not attend the state executive meeting. The meeting had been convened to discuss preparations for the silver jubilee function of the Samajwadi party.
