PEDDAPALLI: There was further proof of the dangerous manner in which the Kaleswaram lift irrigation project is being executed when yet another construction worker died after the roof of a tunnel collapsed and a gigantic boulder fell on him on Thursday morning at Mallapur village in Dharmaram mandal in Peddapalli district.

On Wednesday, seven labourers had died in the same manner in the  10th package works in Rajanna Sircilla district.

The deceased Devijit Sonwal, 27 was from Assam and had been working at the site for a few days. The project authorities attribute the collapsed roof of the tunnel to blasting work taking place some distance away at Mallapur village, which is the entry point of the long tunnel.

Meanwhile, state BJJP president K. Laxman said that it was mandatory for labourers engaged for underground tunnel works to be properly trained. He said that he was not sure whether the labourers who had died had been skilled or not.
