Telangana to be power-full by 2019, says Central Electricity Authority
Region-wise only southern and eastern regions are in deficit stage.
HYDERABAD: It will take one more year for Telangana state to become a power surplus State. TS Government has doubled the power generation in the last four years but has to wait one more year to become self-sufficient in power generation. According to the Central Electricity Authority (CEA), TS is in deficit of 8,372 million units against the requirement of 71,214 million units in 2018-19 year.
The CEA in its report said that the anticipated power supply across the country in 2018-19 will be 13,37,036 MU and available power is 13,98, 706 MU. Region-wise only southern and eastern regions are in deficit stage. In the southern states AP and Karnataka are power surplus and TS, Tamil Nadu and Kerala are in power deficit.
The power requirement in AP is 62,602 MU whereas 67,134MU power is available. In Karnataka, the required power is 73,621 MU and availability of power is 77,140 MU. Kerala is 1,599 MU, Tamil Nadu 204 MU and Telangana 8,372 MU in deficit.
Compared to national level, the per capita power consumption is high in TS. The average per capita power consumption at national level is 1,122 units and in TS it is 1,500 units. The free power supply to agriculture sector is consuming more power; no other state is implementing 24x7 free power supply to agri sector like TS.
When TS was formed, the power generation in the state was 7,778 MW and at present the power generation is 15,376 MW. Further the power projects with the capacity of 12,807 MW are under various stages. The TRANSCO officials said Kottagudem Thermal Power station (KTPS) 7th phase has the capacity of 800 MW, Manuguru power plant has capacity of 1080 MW , Singareni power plant has the capacity of 800 MW and NTPC unit has the capacity of 1600 MW and they will start production in 2019. They said with this power generation Telangana will become a power surplus State.
In addition to this Yadadri and other power plants are also under construction. They said in Telangana 24x7 power is being supplied to all sectors and there is no power cut to any sector.
