Hyderabad: A Class X student jumped from the third floor of the Vidyadayini Model School at Kanchanbagh on Tuesday after he was allegedly caught cheating during the SSC exam.

D. Saneeth Reddy, 15, is badly injured and is on ventilator support and will be undergoing a major surgery in DRDO Apollo Hospital, his parents said. The youngster was upset when he heard that he may be barred from sitting for the SSC exam for four years for cheating.

Saneeth is a student of Bhashyam School in Santhoshnagar. Vidyadayini Model School was his examination centre. After the exams started, the invigilator found Saneeth with a small slip of paper in his hand. When he started enquiring about it, Saneeth rushed out of the classroom and jumped from the third floor of the building, Kanchanbagh police said. In a strange twist, district education department officials who visited the school to enquire about the incident have been criticised by child rights activists.

“The kid is battling for his life and the officials were eager to book a case against him for exam malpractice,” said child rights activist Achyuth Rao.

Child rights activists say it was the fault of Bhashyam School and have approached the police to take action against the teachers. They allege that the teachers have encouraged students to commit malpractice in order to score good marks.
