Chennai: Woman advocate commits suicide

Chennai: A 29-year-old woman advocate committed suicide at her residence in Choolaimedu in the wee hours of Thursday.

The deceased identified as Mohana,  practising in the high court and living with her husband Rajesh and their seven-year-old son on Periyar street in Choolaimedu.

According to police, Rajesh, a businessman, was murder accused and sources said he often allegedly assaulted Mohana under the influence of alcohol.

On Wednesday night, he began to physically assault Mohana and  she alerted the police. However, when SI Selvaraj reached the spot, Rajesh fled the spot.

The police left asking Mohana to call again when Rajesh got back home.

At 1 am on Thursday, the police got a call from Mohana and when they reached her house, the door was locked from inside.

When police broke the door open, she was found hanging from the ceiling and the son was asleep. Her body was sent to Kilpauk government hospital for post mortem.  A case has been registered and a hunt is on to nab her husband.
