LED bulbs help cut power bill in Andhra Pradesh

House holds under 0 to 50 units slab: Rs 213 per annum saving.

Till date 1.75 crore LED bulbs have been distributed against the target of 1.87 crore LED bulbs which is expected to reduce peak demand in the grid around by 500 MW and energy savings of 1200 MU ‚- 1400 MU annually in AP.

Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh government has saved 421 million units of energy  (i.e. 42 crore electricity units) in a year in domestic sector by using 57.03 lakh LED bulbs in four districts of Guntur, Anantapur, Srikakulam and West Godavari.

The aggressive drive for energy-efficient activities and conservation of energy movement  was launched following directions of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu. This helped the electricity consumers of the four districts save between Rs 250 and Rs 550 each in their  electricity bills depending upon their power meter slab.

These energy saving details were announced during the third party preliminary survey covering 57,667 households in the four districts by expert-teams from Andhra University and Engineering Staff College of India (ESCI).

The report has been submitted to the Andhra Pradesh State Energy Conservation Mission, (APSECM) as per which the actual annual energy savings per bulb is 73.7 units on an average as against 55.65 units projected in the estimated savings.

The State government has decided to distribute LED bulbs to cover 100 per cent households. Expressing satisfaction over energy savings, Mr. Naidu directed the Energy Department officials to immediately set up LED bulbs replacement service centres in all the 175 Assembly constituencies, and if necessary in mandal headquarters too.

“The third party study report will be released by Union Power Minister Piyush Goyal along with Union Urban Development Minister Mr Venkaiah Naidu and the Chief Minister in Nellore on February 27," Energy Secretary Mr Ajay Jain said.

APSECM Chief Executive Officer Mr A Chandra Sekhara Reddy said the Chief Minister has also insisted that officials should work out a mechanism to facilitate every household with 5-star rated electrical appliances enabling them to save energy resulting in reduction of electricity bill amount and also protect environment.
