Rains start filling dams in Tirumala

Tirupati: Following the recent rainfall, dams in Tirumala have shown progress in water levels. The current water levels in dams including Kalyani Dam at Tirupati will suffice to cater to the water needs for the next 295 days.
While the total capacity of water storage in different dams at Tirumala is 5,047 million litres, the present reserve is 2,164 million litres. The average consumption of water in Tirumala is 14 MLD.
The demand is addressed by water sources including Papavinasanam, Aakasa Ganga, Kumaradhara and Pasupudhara and Gobarbham dams at Tirumala besides Kalyani dam at Tirupati. With the recent rains over 50 per cent of water needs have been met out. When the total capacity of all dams is 5,312 lakh gallons, the present level in all dams is 3,892 lakh gallons as of now.
