Warangal: The First Additional District Court on Friday sentenced Kanakam Shiva, a 24-year-old man, to life imprisonment for rape and murder of a seven-year-old girl. Shiva had committed the heinous act on December 3, 2017 at Gori Kothapalli village of Regonda mandal in Jayashankar Bhupalpally district.

The accused lived in the same locality as the girl. On December 3, he kidnapped her to a secluded place, raped her and then murdered her. When the villagers realised that the girl was missing, they began searching for her. They found her dead body behind a stack of hay.

Parents of the girl have expressed satisfaction over the verdict, which came after about two years of the crime.

Recently, the same First Additional District Court had sentenced the rapist of a nine-month-old infant to death by hanging.
