Banners: Kamal Haasan, Vijay slam state government’s apathy

Chennai: Two top movie stars slammed the state government on Friday, sending ripples across the Tamil Nadu political arena as both touched the raw chord of the recent gruesome deaths on Chennai roads-techie Subhasri struck by a flying AIADMK banner, 14-year-old Dheena Senthil stepping on live wire submerged in stagnant rainwater and electricity pole falling on 42-year-old Sethuraj the following day.

Jubilee star Vijay, said to be eyeing a political launch pretty soon, called upon his fans to be alert and active on the social media to pull up the administration whenever a wrong is done. “Things will be good if only we place the right people at right places”, he said, hinting that those in power now are not good and he would be the best alternative.

The star of many hits made his politically loaded speech at the audio-launch of his latest flick, 'Bigil', at a massive auditorium of a college at Tambaram that overflowed with his fans. In fact, the police resorted to lathi-charge to disperse the fans who turned restive on being denied entry into the hall despite having the 'pass' collected from their local representatives of the 'Vijay Narpani Mandram' (Vijay Welfare Association) and spending the whole night waiting outside!

“Don't touch my fans”, thundered Vijay in his speech that followed the police action outside the venue. “You may tear up my pictures, but do not touch my fans”. He also drew lusty cheering from the audience when he pointed out that the sponsor of the banner that killed Subhasri, an AIADMK ex-councilor, is still at large while the poor printer and the truck driver have been arrested.
