Mysuru tourism falls after Kodagu, Kerala disasters

The district administration has banned all accommodation of tourists in hotels, home stays and resorts till August 31.

Mysuru: The Kodagu and Kerala twin disasters have hit  Mysuru's tourism , which has fallen by 40 per cent,  according to those involved in the industry.  With Kerala accounting for 30 per cent of  tourists to Mysuru, the district has seen a sharp fall in arrivals as tourists from that state have stopped coming to it over the last few weeks. And around 40 per cent of  tourists from North India too have stopped planning trips to Mysuru  as they can no longer head for Kerala or Kodagu as part of their itinerary, according to  head of Mysuru travel mart,  C A Jayakumar. 

As a result hotel occupancy in Mysuru , which is usually 50 per cent on week days and 70 per cent during the weekends in  July and August, has fallen to 25 per cent on week days and 40 per cent during the weekends, says Mysuru hotel owners association head, Narayangowda  Meanwhile, in distaster -hit   Kodagu, the district administration has banned all accommodation of tourists in hotels, home stays and resorts till August 31.
