Hyderabad: The Congress’ Scheduled Tribes Cell on Saturday alleged that Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao had betrayed Adivasis in the state.

Cell co-convenor Bellaiah Naik demanded that Mr Rao hold an open debate on the problems of Adivasis. He said that 17 tribal sects were living in the forests and there was no podu cultivation. Offic-ers were misleading the state government on the issue, he alleged.

He said the Adivasi Hakkula Porata Samiti was fighting for the rights of the Adivasis, but the state government was conspiring against it by alleging that it had links with Maoists.  He alleged that the police had been trying to paint the Adivasis issue as a law and order problem.
