Coimbatore: Man molests child, held under Pocso Act
The woman raised an alarm and neighbours caught the man and thrashed him before handing him over to the police.
COIMBATORE: A 54-year-old man was held under the Pocso Act for sexually harassing a four-year-old child near Thudiyaloor in the city’s suburbs.
A daily wager couple residing at Thudiyaloor had left the little girl at a relative's house and left for work. Suddenly, the baby disappeared from the drawing room.
As her relatives were searching for the child, they heard the baby scream from the bedroom. Rushing into the room, the woman was shocked to see a stranger inside her house sexually harassing the little child by closing her mouth.
The woman raised an alarm and neighbours caught the man and thrashed him before handing him over to the police. Preliminary investigations revealed that he was Selvaraj (54), a daily wage load man from the same area. The man was booked under the Pocso Act and imprisoned in Coimbatore Central prison.
A few months back, in a similar incident, a class-1 girl was sexually assaulted and murdered by her relative in the same area. Tension prevailed at Thudiyaloor for a while following the incident.
