Reopen school in village adopted by CM Chandrababu Naidu: Tribals
The students and the leaders urged the officials to reopen the school and let them continue education.
Visakhapatnam: Schoolchildren from Littiguda village of Araku Valley Mandal, which was adopted by Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, staged a protest near collectorate in Visakhapatnam on Monday, asking the authorities to reopen the government elementary school in their village.
During the rationalisation process, the MPP Elementary School in the village was closed and now children are being forced to trek two kms to reach another school. Due to this, many students quit their education.
In October 2015, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, after adopting the tribal hamlet, promised to enhance the services in the village - including health, infrastructure, sanitation and education among others.
Speaking on this occasion, Girijana Sangham district president, K. Surendra, said that about 23 students were studying in the school and now many had discontinued their education due to the trekking troubles.
“Merging the school with a nearby one has distanced many students from education. They are now being forced to trek the hill which will be difficult in the rain season,” he said.
A Left party leader commented that CM adopted the village, which sits on huge tracts of bauxite, for just namesake and to make the tribals agree to the bauxite mining. The students and the leaders urged the officials to reopen the school and let them continue education.
