Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court on Friday pulled up the Special Investigation Team re-investigating the sensational murder case of Bachelor of Pharmacy student Ayesha Meera for not examining her hostel mates.

A division bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice J. Uma Devi heard the petition by Ms Shamshad Begum and Mr Iqbal Basha, parents of Ayesha Meera, seeking the court to monitor the investigation of the case by the SIT.

Ayesha Meera was killed in a private hostel in Ibrahimpatnam at Vijayawada on December 27, 2007 and the police had booked P. Satyam Babu as the prime accused in the case, although the High Court acquitted him in March 2017. The bench wondered why the SIT failed to examine the students who were present on the night of the murder and recorded their statement.

The bench told the SIT to find out why the other members of the hostel stated that none of them had seen the crime taking place, when the victim was killed brutally by having her head smashed and then her body dragged from her room to the bathroom.

The counsel appearing for the AP submitted that the SIT had examined 30 persons so far, including the parents of the victim, and that the state government had allocated '61 lakh for the investigation but released only '5 lakh so far. While directing the government to release the remaining budget in the current financial year, the bench also directed the SIT to file the status report and posted the case for July 13.
