Telangana: Land scarcity for crematoriums

The government has also admitted that even the existing crematoriums lack water, toilets and other facilities.

Hyderabad: The state government on Tuesday admitted that all cities, towns and villages in the state lack adequate crematoriums due to which people are facing several hardships.

The government has also admitted that even the existing crematoriums lack water, toilets and other facilities.

Speaking in the Legislative Assembly during Question Hour, the minister for panchayat raj and rural development Jupally Krishna Rao said, “While non-availability of lands is posing a problem in cities and towns, lack of funds remain a constraint in villages. Steps are being taken to address these issues.”

The government assured to create crematorium facilities by linking it with NREGA scheme in villages and sanctioning funds for local bodies in cities.

He said there has been a huge demand from all parts of the city for setting up of crematoriums with basic amenities. “We have given administrative sanctions to set up 4,271 crematoriums so far,” he said.
