Karwar Deputy Commissioner makes voters dive for their IDs

Karwar: You have heard of couples getting married at bizarre locations,  in the air or on water, but in what has to be a first, voters received their IDs under water from a scuba diving deputy commissioner in the coastal town of Karwar on the weekend.

As the IDs were meant for the millennials, who will be voting for the first time these coming assembly polls, the theme of the day was clearly excitement and adventure.  And scuba diving, a popular sport in the district, came in handy for Uttara Kannada Deputy Commissioner, S S Nakul, to impress the four 18- year- olds, born on January 1, 2000, who received their voter IDs from him in the depths of the sea.

"We are very happy at this unique initiative of the district administration,” said one of the millennials, Akshay speaking to reporters after their adventure.
