Chennai: As protests erupted in the city after the Ram Rajya Rath Yatra  entered Tirunelveli district on Tuesday, traffic was thrown out of gear in several parts of Chennai.  A group of men blocked Anna Salai, due to which the vehicular traffic was affected around 11 am.

Advocates and office-goers were among the worse affected. “It took the police over 30 minutes to control the agitation near Simpson bus stop and by then there was a long queue of vehicles,” said K.Balachandran, a motorist. For a brief time, the city police diverted traffic from Anna Salai towards Pudupet and Chintadripet.

Even the vehicles on Poonamallee High Road from Kilpauk to Chennai Central suffered traffic snarls. However, the situation was brought under control by afternoon.
