BENGALURU: In the absence of proper street lights, the underpass near BEL circle has become a nightmare for motorists travelling between Hebbal and Goranguntepalya.

The underpass also provides a vital link to the Airport and it has been in this condition for the past 3-4 weeks.

“It is really tough to ride the bike on this stretch. Potholes or bumpy surface can't be seen due to poor visibility,” said Rudresh, a local commuter from Mathikere.
Another commuter G.Rajendra said as there are no street lights, most motorists use high beam head lamps that poses high risk for commuters.

“There is no light on this road for the past 3-4 weeks. I am aged and it is difficult to drive especially when it comes to this stretch of underpass without any street lights.”

For people from North Karnataka and Mysuru region this underpass is the major link road to the airport.

It is not the first time, this stretch is facing the street light problem. Last year also there was a similar problem and commuters had complained to BBMP.
While the corporators of the two wards said that it doesn’t come under their jurisdiction and refused to comment on the issue, city mayor Sampath Raj said, “I will be visiting the location soon and ensure that the issue is solved.”

Even at the recent BBMP council meeting, Raj said that every electric pole will have a number mentioned, which will help the commuters to complain or get it repaired. But for now the motorists continue to struggle driving in the dark.
This dimly lit street also poses a problem for local residents, especially for women travelling at night.
