HC orders encroachers out of Jubilee Hills road

Hyderabad: Justice T. Vinod Kumar of the Telangana High Court on Monday directed the parties encroaching on GVM Road at Jubilee Hills to vacate the premises. The judge is dealing with a writ petition filed by Dr Lakshmi Srinivasan, veterinary doctor residing at Jubilee Hills.

He alleged that the Municipal authorities had not removed the illegal encroachment on GVM Road, in spite of issuing final notice to the encroachers and this was causing immense trouble to commuters and residents. The GHMC said the respondents were taking steps in this regard. The judge directed GHMC to immediately enforce the final notice and the encroaching parties to vacate the premises.

HC gets report on toilets in hostels

A two-judge bench of the Telangana High Court on Monday took account of the inaction of the government in providing facilities to children as prescribed in the Guidelines of Chapter IV of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights 2018.

The bench of Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice N.V. Shravan Kumar was hearing a PIL filed by Keethineedi Akhil Sri Guru Teja, challenging the inaction of the authorities in providing basic facilities such as bathrooms and toilets and appointing wardens in the hostels of state-run educational institutions for children.

The petitioner asked for bathrooms in a 1:10 ratio, toilets in 1:7 ratio, wardens in 1:50 ratio. After the respondents filed a status report in court on Monday, the court granted time to the petitioner to file a reply and listed the matter on December 15.

Court junks plea for action on ECI

A two-judge bench of the Telangana High Court comprising Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice N.V. Shravan Kumar dismissed a plea seeking action against the Election Commission of India (ECI) for not taking action with respect to the absent, shift, death, and duplicate (ASD&D) list on the objections raised by Congress Nampally candidate Feroz Khan. He had filed a writ plea challenging the inaction of ECI in disposing of his representations and preparing the ASD&D list. He said in the absence of such a list would open up the possibility of bogus voting. Earlier he had contended that if the candidates are not privy to such a list it would seriously hamper the confidence quotient of the electoral process. The bench having found no merit in the case dismissed it.

Notice to NITHM on new director

Justice C.V. Bhaskar Reddy of the Telangana High Court ordered notices to the National Institute of Tourism and Hospitality Management (NITHM) over the alleged illegal appointment of its director. The judge is hearing a writ petition filed by Bakka Judson, social activist, challenging the appointment of S. Chinnam Reddy as NITHM director.

The petitioner alleged that GO appointing the director was not in accordance with the law and that there were several irregularities. He sought directions to recover the salaries and allowances paid to the director so far. The matter will be heard on December 18.
