Khammam: New food security cards are set to replace the current ration cards soon. During the Telangana movement, the TRS had announced that after coming to power it would issue the new cards, but the promise remained only in files for the past four years.

The current move is seen as a popularity measure in view of the upcoming elections.

After coming to power, the TRS government has not issued any new ration cards in the past four years and at present, the provisions in fair price shops are being distributed to the beneficiaries on the basis of documents like Aadhar cards.

Sources said the printing of the new food security cards have begun at several printing presses across the state.

As per the details, the government had announced the launch of the food security cards two years ago, but failed to distribute them because of the formation of new districts. It is expected that the new cards will be distributed to the beneficiaries before the end of September.
