Hyderabad: HC asks TISS students to approach institute admin
The students had demanded that the TISS-Hyderabad reduce the tariff of the hostel provided by a private service provider.
Hyderabad: The High Court on Friday directed students of the Tata Institute of Social Sciences-Hyderabad who had approached it with a petition challenging the closure of academic activities on the campus, to issue personal notices to the institute’s administrative authorities.
Justice A. Rajasheker Reddy, dealing with the petition filed by six TISS students, said they should serve notices on the acting registrar of TISS, chairman of the governing body who resides at Mumbai, the acting deputy director of the Hyderabad campus and the hostel service provider at Brahmanpally in Ranga Reddy district.
The students had approached the court to suspend the notice issued by the TISS administration to close academic activities on the Hyderabad campus following a protest regarding the hostel tariff.
The students had demanded that the TISS-Hyderabad reduce the tariff of the hostel provided by a private service provider. The students used to pay hostel fee on a monthly basis whereas now it is being collected semester-wise. The students are being asked pay `55,000 upfront, they said.
