Bengaluru: The Hebbal flyover has been witnessing slow moving traffic with traffic jams becoming common of late. The Hebbal traffic police led by DCP North (Traffic) Sarah Fathima inspected the flyover and found that the asphalt at the joints of the ramps was coming off resulting in motorists slowing down.

“We have been receiving complaints of slow moving traffic on the flyover, not only during the peak hours but during non-peak hours too. We went and checked the reason and it was found that the vehicles were slowing down as they reached the joint of the ramps because of the asphalt coming off. If vehicles speed over it, there is an impact on the vehicle and might cause damage. So the vehicles tend to slow down,” a traffic police official said.

“On Thursday, we carried out a complete investigation and even the motorists complained to us about the same issue. We immediately informed the BDA officials, who also visited the flyover and assured us of asphalting the stretch again,” he said.

Asked when the asphalt work will begin, the official said the BDA officials had said it would start at the earliest and they would give the police information before starting the work. Asphalting work will be completed in just a fortnight, he said.

Sumanth Nagraj, a techie working at Manyata Tech Park and a resident of Sanjay Nagar, who uses the flyover every day, said, “As the asphalt has come off near the ramp joints, small craters have formed around it. They keep growing and when a vehicle runs into them, there is an impact, causing damage to the vehicle.

Everyone slows down while approaching these joints. When the traffic is high, especially during peak hours, vehicles slow down near the joints resulting in traffic jams.”
