Hyderabad: Rescued from snares, injured leopard undergoes surgery

Zoo officials stated that the panther had survived injuries in its right forelimb and is under treatment in the zoo hospital.

Leopard rescued from Bansuwada village being treated at Nehru zoo hospital

Hyderabad: The Nehru Zoological Park, Hyderabad, has rescued a leopard trapped under snares by chemically immobilising it at Basupally Thanda, Bansuwada Reserve Forest, Kamareddy district.

The zoo officials stated that the leopard had survived injuries in its right forelimb and is under treatment in the zoo hospital. The surgery was performed on Thursday by Animal Husbandry experts Dr G. Shambulingam, Asst. Director (AH) and Dr M. Navin Kumar, Dy Director (Retd.) and zoo consultant and veterinarians of Nehru Zoological Park, Hyderabad.

Officials added that the animal’s bones were surgically removed and its paw was sutured. The limb also has multiple fractures and hence Plaster of Paris was applied to immobilise the forelimb. The animal is under medical observation.
