Hyderabad: A premature baby born weighing just 375 grams at 25 weeks has survived due to the care of the neo-natal team at Rainbow Hospital. The baby girl Cherry was born to Nikita and Saurabh from Chattisgarh. Nikita has had four abortions and this was her only chance of having a baby.

At 24 weeks the ultrasound showed that there was less amniotic fluid around the baby and its weight was just 350 gram.

Dr Dinesh Kumar Chirla, director, Intensive Care Services explained, “The blood from the mother was compromised and the baby would not survive in the womb. The neonatology team and gynaecologist made a delivery plan.”

Dr Chirla explained, “There are challenges like drop in oxygen. In normal children, the lung artery closes after birth, but this baby had oxygenation problem.”
