Tirupati: 89 per cent vote in Chandragiri repolling

Tirupati: Re-polling held at seven polling booths in Chandragiri constituency of Chittoor district on Sunday concluded with 89.29 per cent polling recorded till 6 pm.

The voting for 166-Chandragiri Assembly segment and 25-Chittoor Parliament constituency started at 7 am and ended at 6 pm.

According to official reports, till 6 pm, 89.29 per cent votes were recorded in the seven polling booths, where 4,867 voters franchised their voting, whereas 4,929 cast their votes in the elections held on April 11. However, voting in a few booths continued after poll hours. In all, women voters dominated men by recording higher polling percentage. As many as 2,507 women voters out of a total of 2,813 voted, while 2,360 men out of 2,638 voted in all the seven polling stations.

At 104-Pulivarthivari Palle, 765 votes were polled out of a total of 805, followed by 310-Kalepalli — 565 out of 597, 313-Venkataramapuram — 338 out of 377, 316–Kothakandriga — 841 out of 991, 318–Kammapalli — 859 out of 1,028, 321-NR Kammapalli — 620 out of 698 and 323–Kuppam Baduru — 879 out of 955.

Officials declared that the election was held in a peaceful way and no untoward incident was reported from any part of the constituency so far.

However, a minor altercation between the TD and the YSRC was reported at Pulivarthivari Palle, when TD nominee Pulivarthi Nani and YSRC sitting legislator Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy’s brother-in-law Keshavulu Reddy had a heated exchange of arguments.

Police also arrested Muni Chandra Naidu of GKN Kandriga of 318 Kammapalli on charges of trying to vitiate polling by unnecessarily arguing with the presiding officer.
