Kochi: 270 arrested in operation King Cobra

Kochi: As part of the ongoing operation King Cobra, launched by the city police with an aim to crack down on anti-social activities, over 270 people were arrested in the last two days and around 200 cases were registered. Of this, 234 persons were arrested on Monday alone and around 40 including notorious goons were arrested on Tuesday.

The operation was launched at the instance of city police commissioner S. Surendran to crack down on all the anti-social elements including criminals, notorious goons in the city, and also the drug mafia which controls the drug flow into the city.

The arrested include notorious goons, long-absconding accused, wanted criminals, and other anti-socials including history-sheeters and accused in various assault cases The 40 notorious goons who were arrested on Tuesday include Shaji alias Thammanam Shaji, Sudhi alias Perikkad Sudhi, Anish alias Dosthi Anish, Vijayendran, Ravi alias Vikkan Ravi, Lenin Perumbadappu, Shammi Perumbadappu and Kovalam Martin.

Meanwhile, ten cases were registered in connection with sale and use of drugs.

Besides, the police conducted raids at hotels, home stays, lodges, clubs, private flats and guest houses during these days. “The team members of the operation are given special tasks and daily targets to trace the hide-outs of the accused and conduct raids. The accused are under the police scanner and more arrests will be made. The operation will continue in the coming days,” the release issued by the city police quoted city police commissioner as saying.

The operation which commenced on Monday will continue till the end of the month.
