Kannur: Kannur police sent blood samples collected from the spot, of the witnesses and accused in the Shuhaib murder case, to the forensic laboratory in Thiruvananthapuram for DNA tests as the High Court recently stayed a CBI probe into the case.  The samples were collected from three witnesses and 11 accused. The test results would be crucial during the trial, according to experts. Youth Congress leader S.P. Shuhaib was hacked to death on February 12, in the presence of his friends E. Noushad, K, Riyas and Azharuddeen.

These three friends are witnesses in the case. The blood samples, nail and hair samples of these three witnesses and 11 accused have been collected from district hospital and sent to the forensic laboratory. The witnesses, and one of the accused, C.S. Deep Chand were injured at the murder spot.

At the time of the attack, blood and flesh were scattered in the tea shop. However since Shuhaib and his friends had the same blood group, police requested the petitioners for a DNA test. The DNA samples would also clear allegations of ‘dummy’ accused in the case. However the investigation officers said that the samples were collected as body parts and blood from the place were Shuhaib was attacked.
