Kerala: Congress leader arrested for hartal violence

ALAPPUZHA: A local Congress leader was arrested on Tuesday in connection with the clash with the police personnel that occurred on hartal day on Monday.  

He was identified as Biju, 44, Chelliyil,  booth president of ward number 15 of Purakad panchyat. He was produced before the judicial first class magistrate court at Ambalappuzha and remanded.  The police had earlier arrested another Congress activist Arun, 22, Puthvel, Purakad, in connection with the incident. 

The clash occurred during a protest march at Ambalapuzha junction when seven people, including Ambalppuzha circle inspector Biju V. Nair and civil police officers Pradeep Kumar and K.R. Saravanan  sustained minor injuries.
