Kochi: The Palarivattom flyover has become the ‘Panchavadippalam.’ The High Court made this observation on Wednesday while considering a bail petition filed by T.O. Sooraj, former PWD secretary, arrested in connection with the alleged corruption in the flyover work.

Panchavadippalam, a satirical Malayalam film directed by K.G. George in 1984, had focussed on political corruption. The court, which asked who is responsible for the weakness of the flyover, wanted to know the supervisors of the work. The government counsel told the court that the flyover posed a danger to people.

Observing that the Palarivattom bridge had become ‘Panchavadippalam,’ it remarked that the storyline of the film had become a reality. The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau probing the case told the court that more arrests will be made in connection with the case. More officials needed to be questioned and the process of gathering more evidence was still progressing.

The court directed the government and the VACB to submit the details of the role played by each person currently in remand and also the current status of the investigation.
